THE CEREMONIES - (C) April 1992 Bea Alley

We are going to prepare for a general protection spell...

It is useful for protecting you and your home, your car while driving and yourself when away from home etc.

Part 1 of 2

Gather together the following herbs, Angelica, Fennel, Mistletoe, St. Johns Wort, and Vervain. You can find these in any herb or health food store. Incense should be of Sandalwood, Frankincense, or Myrrh. You will need one white candle and one light blue candle. A gemstone of either turquoise or tiger-eye. A gown used only for rituals, purchased or hand made.. For some of my rituals I made one out of a new, twin, white sheet. I cut a hole in the center, corrected its length and hemmed it. I found a large curtain cord and put it around my waist. I feel making your own tools, robes, growing your own herbs etc., bring a close communion with your inner energies and the objects used for ceremonies.

An alter is needed, a regular coffee table can be used. I enjoy doing my spells in a standing position so I added a two foot extension on the four legs. I also enjoy the openness and freedom of casting outdoors.

Seeing that I work with the cooperation of the four winds in performing my spells, and the East represents Life and the South represents Health, I position my alter so that it faces southeast for performing a spell of protection.. I also cover my alter with a white cloth.

When preparing for casting a spell I fast for at least four hours. I find only four hours is needed for me because at that hour your body's involuntary action of digestion has slowed and yet you are not distracted by hunger allowing for fuller concentration on the spell and ritual at hand. If trying too soon, anything in the body can cause fatigue, indigestion or other side effects keeping you from performing at your best. I also bathe just before performing any spell. You must be relaxed and calm, meditation during a relaxing bath is essential. You will also need a wooden bowl and wooden spoon. Next we will go through the preparation of the needed herbs and the ritual itself.

This is segment 2 of the ritual for a protection spell... Part 2 of 2

We gathered everything we needed for the ritual. We have not eaten for at least four hours, taken our warm relaxing bath, hung a note on the door "Come back in an hour" and took the phone off the hook. Now we are ready. You need nothing else on except the robe.

Now we are ready to set up the alter. Place your white candle on the left side of the alter, this shows you are performing good magick and white also represents purity. The blue candle sets on the right side which represents the acts of health and protection. Place your wooden bowl and spoon in front of you. Except the St. Johns Wart, place about a 1/4 cup of loose herb components, in the bowl. Add 5 drops of St. Johns Wart. Place your gemstone on the alter between the bowl and the blue candle. The incense goes in front of you but toward the back of the alter.

Light the incense first the whit candle next the the blue candle. Start mixing your herbs, until well blended, clockwise, this shows the end result is for the future. Take your bowl and hold it up about eye level and face east and recite "I call upon the spirits of the winds from the east that bring forth life. Protect me and mine in the forthcoming hours." Face south and recite "I call upon the spirits of the winds from the south that bring health so our years may be long." Face west and recite "I call upon the spirits of the winds from the west that bring prosperity that we may have everything we need to survive these trials and tribulations." Face north and recite "I call upon the spirits of the winds from the north that bring purity and love that we may be cleansed of all wrong doings."

Face the alter and put down your bowl and while stirring clockwise recite "Spirits of the south east winds watch over us, into your powers we put our trust. Keep us from evil and harm each day, give us your wisdom and show us the way." Place your gemstone into the mixture and mix it through the mixture. You can place your gemstone in your pocket or make it into a necklace to be carried or worn for protection. Hold your container of mixture once more above your head, facing the alter, and thank the spirits of the winds. Place your herbs in a container or pouch. Extinguish your blue candle and then the white candle. Use your mixture to sprinkle in front of windows and doors and the head of your bed. Also carry some with you, they may be carried in the same pouch as the gemstone.
